Activities Regarding Energy Cooperation Between the Governments of the Republic of Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC)

To ensure the uninterrupted and sustainable electricity supply for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, priority activities have been identified to enable the effective and efficient operation of existing power plants. These include performing all necessary corrective and periodic maintenance, and if required, increasing installed capacity through new generation facilities.

Under the “2022 Economic and Financial Cooperation Agreement” signed between the two countries, as well as the “Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Energy Between the Governments of the Republic of Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus”, our institution has been assigned certain responsibilities, including:

• Maintenance of Teknecik Power Plant Diesel Engines:

EÜAŞ is tasked with performing corrective and periodic maintenance of five diesel engines, each with a capacity of 17 MWe, owned by KIB-TEK. Additionally, EÜAŞ handles all spare parts procurement and related operations for three of these diesel engines.

• Deployment of Mobile Power Plant Units:

Considering the increasing electricity demand on the island, a total of seven (7) mobile power plant units, each with an installed capacity of 25 MWe and stationed in Türkiye, have been transported and commissioned at the Teknecik plant site as follows: two units in 2022, three units in 2024, and two units in 2025, totaling 175 MW.

With the deployment of these mobile units, the total installed capacity within the TRNC’s borders increased by approximately 30%, raising the total installed capacity from 565 MW to 740 MW.
