Karakaya Hydroelectric Power Plant Project
Karakaya Hydroelectric Power Plant Project
Karakaya Hydroelectric Power Plant, with an installed capacity of 1800 MW (6 × 300 MW), is located on the Euphrates River and is the second largest hydroelectric power plant in Türkiye in terms of installed capacity. Karakaya HEPP has been serving the country’s electricity generation for 38 years. (The first unit was commissioned on 06.03.1987, and the last unit on 25.02.1989.)
Over the years, severe cavitation, metal fatigue, and various malfunctions have made safe operation increasingly difficult at Karakaya HEPP. In addition, low turbine efficiency and outdated technologies have created the need for turbine rehabilitation.
In line with these needs, rehabilitation works have been initiated. Within the scope of the Karakaya HEPP Turbine Rehabilitation Project, the following are targeted:
• Replacement of turbine runners
• Renewal of the guide bearing cooling system
• Maintenance and repair of turbine auxiliary equipment (guide vanes, servomotors, bearings, etc.)
• General cleaning and maintenance of all dismantled equipment
