SARIYAR HASAN POLATKAN HEPP
Sarıyar Hasan Polatkan Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant was built on the Sakarya River, near Sarıyar Village, 24 km south of Nallıhan district of Ankara province. It has a total installed power of 160 MW with its 4 generators, each of which is 40 MW, and its annual production capacity is foreseen as 300 million kWh. It has the characteristic of being Turkey's first big dam.
The first studies on the construction of Sarıyar Hasan Polatkan Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant in the Sakarya basin started with the geological surveys in 1943. The dam construction, which was initially planned as a rockfill dam with an agreement withThe Chas T. Main Inc. of Etibank in 1950 was later turned into a concrete gravity dam due to both economic and technical reasons. The dam construction, which was initially planned as a rockfill dam with an agreement with his company, was later turned into a concrete gravity dam due to both economic and technical reasons. Construction began on March 1, 1953, and the first two units were built on December 2, 1956; units 3 and 4 were put into operation on 30 July 1966.
The body volume of the dam, which was built in concrete gravity type, is 568,000 m³, the body height is 108 m, and the crest length is 249.5 m. The lake volume at the maximum water level is 1,400 hm³.
In addition to energy production, it was established to contribute to the flood protection, development of fishery, to help the development of water transport and tourism, and to contribute to the afforestation of the environment. The power plant switchyard is connected to Mudurnu, Adapazarı, Bolu and Çayırhan switchyards via 154 kV transmission lines.
