ALTINKAYA HEPP
Altınkaya Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant was built 35 km southwest of Bafra district of Samsun and it is the third dam to be completed after Hirfanlı and Kesikköprü Dams on Kızılırmak, the longest river of our country. It is the largest of the Kızılırmak basin dams in terms of body fill volume, installed power and annual energy production. Altınkaya Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant has an annual capacity of producing 1 billion 632 million kWh of electrical energy with an installed power of 702,550 MW (4x175 MW+1x2,55 MW).
Altınkaya Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant, whose construction started on July 4, 1980 in the Kızılırmak Basin, was completed at the end of 1987. The first two units of the 4-unit power plant, which made its first production on December 9, 1987; the other two units were put into operation in 1988. The body volume of the dam, which was built in clay core rock fill type, is 15.920.000 m³, crest length 619 m, body height 140 m. At the maximum operating level, the lake volume is 5,763 hm³ and the lake area is 74.5 km².It has been actualized as the most important of the big project called the Lower Kızılırmak Project that includes Derbent HEPP and Bafra Plain Irrigation and Reclamation projects. The energy produced at the power plant is transferred to Amasya-Kayabaşı and Çarşamba Switchyards with 380 kV lines, and to Derbent HEPP and Bafra Switchyards with 154 kV lines.
